About Us

Message from the President

Each of America’s cities is a microcosm of the nation as a whole- full of promise, but confronting great challenges.  The American Cities Foundation (ACF) was founded to confront these challenges, build on this potential, and ensure that a comprehensive urban policy remains a central focus of our political discourse.  We are promoting an urban agenda that prioritizes the revitalization of our cities through environmentally appropriate, sustainable, long-term community development.

The issues confronting our urban communities are multifaceted and cross-disciplinary, and so must be our responses.  Our founding principle is that the solutions to many of these difficult problems will be realized when cities invest in and develop the human capacity of all of its citizens.

We, in partnership with local residents and stakeholders, seek to develop and uncover innovative, successful approaches to pervasive problems like education, environmental justice, and economic empowerment.  Further, our role is to share “best practices” that can be replicated across the country.

I encourage you to learn more about the American Cities Foundation, the work we are doing, and to help us as we realize the promise of all of America’s cities.
